Class 2 - Miss Race

Welcome to Class 2

At St John's Chapel Primary School, our children in Lower Key Stage 2 are taught in Class 2. Our class teacher is Miss Race.

In Class Two, we love our learning environment with our reading area, chair back storage and bright, colourful displays. We have maps of the UK and the World and a timeline which we refer to in multiple lessons. The children really enjoy seeing their current work added to these displays. We also have an amazing work wall where we showcase exemplary work that the children should be proud of and to inspire others.  We also demonstrate our working scientifically skills on our science board.

But Class Two is not just all about our classroom setting, it is about being a part of a community where we all feel safe and comfortable to be open and candid. I like to build a foundation of trust and honesty to enable the children to let go of their worries, therefore allowing them to concentrate on their learning.

Learning in Class Two is a fun place to be. We work hard and effort is recognised and appreciated. In Class Two, we learn in lots of different ways, including using our iPads, practical resources and taking our learning outdoors. On a Tuesday, we alternate between PE and Forest School, where we make the most of our amazing school field and woodland area. We also use our outdoor area in science when we use the wildflower meadow to explore local wildlife and habitats. We often have specialist visitors, such as Kerryanne, who supports us with our scientific knowledge and makes our learning even more fun. We end every afternoon with some reading for pleasure where the children enjoy listening to a story. The story may be a part of the chapter book which we are studying in English, or it may be a chapter book which the children in the class have voted for and chosen themselves.

Class Two welcome the children from Wearhead Primary School every week on a Thursday and a Friday for our Federation days. We love getting together with the Wearhead children and talking about what we have been up to at the beginning of the week. We are joined by Miss Brooks on a Thursday who shares her RE expertise with us. The children in Class Two really enjoy their morning of Science on a Friday, especially when we use lots of practical equipment. We have PE on a Friday afternoon to end the week apart from in the Spring Term when we go swimming.
